Our Commitment

Environmental Stewardship Policy

Basic Grain Products, Inc. recognizes that responsible environmental stewardship is integral to how we operate — not a separate initiative, but a core expectation built into every aspect of our business.

Basic Grain Products, Inc. is committed to conducting our operations in a manner that minimizes environmental impact, supports sustainable agriculture throughout our supply chain, and creates long-term value for the communities, ecosystems, and growers we depend on.

This policy articulates our environmental values and commitments across our milling operations, procurement practices, and grower partnership programs.

Operational Environmental Commitments

Within our milling and processing facilities, Basic Grain commits to:

  • Continuously reducing energy consumption through equipment efficiency improvements, operational optimization, and investment in energy-efficient technologies;
  • Monitoring and reducing water consumption across all processing operations, with annual targets for efficiency improvement;
  • Minimizing waste to landfill through by-product valorization — directing milling by-products to livestock feed, compost programs, and other productive uses;
  • Complying with all applicable environmental regulations in British Columbia and Canada, and proactively exceeding regulatory minimums where feasible;
  • Maintaining responsible waste management practices for packaging materials, cleaning agents, and other facility consumables.

Supply Chain & Grower Stewardship

We recognize that the largest environmental footprint in the grain ingredient supply chain occurs at the farm level. Accordingly, we invest in building sustainable practices throughout our grower network:

  • Our Sustainable Grower Program provides free agronomic resources, cover crop guidance, soil health education, and regenerative agriculture support to any grain grower — regardless of whether they currently supply Basic Grain;
  • We prioritize procurement from growers who adopt reduced-tillage, cover cropping, and integrated pest management practices;
  • We work with our crop sciences team to share peer-reviewed research and practical field guidance on practices that build soil organic matter, reduce input requirements, and improve long-term farm resilience.

Certifications & Verification

Our Certified Organic and Non-GMO Verified programs inherently prohibit synthetic pesticide and herbicide use in production — practices that contribute positively to soil and water quality in the regions where our grain is grown. We support these programs not only as market credentials but as genuine environmental commitments.

Continuous Improvement

We commit to reviewing and updating this policy annually, measuring our progress against stated environmental objectives, and communicating transparently with our stakeholders about both achievements and areas requiring further effort.
